Numeral’s $100m Series C bets on sales tax complexity

September 24, 2026

Numeral, the AI-driven sales tax compliance platform, has closed a $100m Series C round as businesses face a widening set of tax obligations across markets and product types.

Insight Partners led the round. Salesforce Ventures, Geodesic, Benchmark, Mayfield, FCVC, Y Combinator and Uncork also took part. Numeral plans to spend the capital on faster product development and a broader offering for sectors such as software, manufacturing, distribution and wholesale. It will also hire across engineering, sales, marketing and product.

The raise reflects a regulatory environment that keeps moving. California has passed legislation that brings prewritten software into the scope of sales and use tax from 2027. This covers SaaS and software that is delivered electronically or accessed remotely. Firms trading across multiple states and countries must track changes like this and adjust their systems each time.

Numeral has grown quickly over the past year. Its total transaction volume rose 327% year-over-year, and the company expects its tax engine to handle more than 80 million transactions.

Its customer base has also broadened, with notable gains among software, distribution and manufacturing companies, many of which are going through substantial change.

The platform covers the full sales tax compliance lifecycle. This includes nexus monitoring, registrations, tax calculation, filings, remittance and management of exemption certificates. Numeral also handles VAT and GST compliance in more than 90 countries and integrates with over 40 billing, financial and ERP systems.

The company pairs a deterministic tax engine with AI and automation to manage high-volume work, and in-house specialists are available to handle complex cases.

According to Numeral, customers can reduce time on filings and registrations by up to 80% and lower manual spreadsheet work and filing errors by up to 95%. Its exemption certificate tool can save up to 400 hours a year.

When firms migrate existing certificates onto the platform, between 30% and 40% typically fail validation, exposing compliance gaps that had gone unnoticed.

Numeral has also introduced an accounting partner programme. Participating firms can refer clients, resell the platform, build their own services on it, or guide clients through implementation. This keeps accountants involved in their clients’ tax decisions. Partners also receive premier support and further benefits linked to engagement and growth.

Ross and CTO Matt DuVall founded Numeral in 2023. The company raised a $35m Series B in September 2025, and its existing backers include Benchmark, Uncork Capital, Y Combinator, Mantis, FCVC and Mayfield.

Numeral co-founder and CEO Sam Ross said, “Sales tax has become a much bigger operational challenge as companies grow across markets, systems and business models. Businesses need infrastructure that can keep pace as rules and requirements change across jurisdictions, without adding more manual work for their teams. We’re building Numeral to provide that foundation, backed by tax expertise and service that customers can rely on.”

He added, “Our customers want to know that their tax obligations are being handled accurately while still having access to a person when a complex issue comes up. That expectation shapes how we build the platform and how we support each customer. As Numeral moves into additional industries and serves larger businesses, we’ll continue investing in both the technology and the tax expertise behind it.”
