AI is everywhere in Zoom product blitz

AI is everywhere in Zoom product blitz

Zoom Communications Inc. is expanding beyond videoconferencing with a shared intelligence layer designed to help artificial intelligence agents turn meetings, calls and customer interactions into completed work across business applications.

Announced at the Zoomtopia virtual conference, the Unified Context Layer anchors updates spanning workplace collaboration, customer service, developer tools, security, events and sales. The company’s strategy aims to address a persistent problem with enterprise AI: Assistants can capture conversations but often lack the history, permissions and connections needed to act on them.

Zoom combines conversation intelligence with documents and information from connected systems such as Salesforce Inc.’s customer relationship management, ServiceNow Inc.’s workflow management platform and Workday Inc.’s human capital management application. It builds a graph linking people, topics and decisions and updates those relationships in near real time, so agents don’t have to reconstruct context for each request.

“The context layer has already synthesized and distilled that information,” Chief Product Officer Russell Dicker said during a briefing. In internal benchmarks, he said the approach reduced costs by 45% to 65% compared with standalone agents parsing information individually. Zoom did not provide independent validation of that comparison.

The layer, available now, provides shared memory and agent coordination across Zoom Workplace, customer experience products and connected applications.

Agent coordination

ZoomMate Agent Teams, also available now, assigns specialized agents to different parts of a project simultaneously, with a lead agent coordinating tasks and combining their output for human review. Agentic search draws answers from Zoom and more than 40 third-party applications.

The My Notes note-taker is expanding from meeting capture into workflow automation. Users will be able to send summaries to Salesforce, Zoom Chat and other destinations using templates or natural-language instructions. A forthcoming standalone mobile app and recording devices from DTEN Inc. and GalaxySailLab Inc.’s Bota extend capture to in-person conversations.

Other additions let invited users receive personalized transcripts and summaries when they miss meetings and link screenshots to relevant transcript passages. Zoom for Business Owners connects meeting context with Zoom’s Bonsai business management and client engagement platform to support proposals, client work and billing.

Within Workplace, Zoom is upgrading translation so a speaker can broadcast translated audio to participants without requiring each listener to hold a separate license (pictured). Voice cloning is intended to preserve the speaker’s vocal identity. Other features smooth voices and accents, adjust video when participants glance away and support screen sharing at 60 frames per second.

A planned live meeting assistant will privately suggest answers and guide pacing and engagement.

“It helps you in real time, looking up answers the second a question comes your way and keeping conversations on track,” said Leo Bolton, who leads product solutions and industry marketing at Zoom.

A redesigned Chat feature lets agents participate alongside employees, while consolidating replies and activity. A Threads page aggregates replies across conversations into a single inbox, while an Activity page organizes mentions, reactions and threads in chronological order. AI-generated meeting icebreakers like word clouds and quizzes, simpler navigation and refreshed calling controls round out the interface changes.

Physical workspace updates include AI-generated digital signage, personal account access in shared Zoom Rooms and expanded Microsoft Corp. Teams interoperability. Zoom is also adding native support for compatible Cisco Systems Inc. hardware and Google LLC Beam immersive meetings. Phone additions include WhatsApp messaging and planned virtual receptionist capabilities for text inquiries and call screening.

Zoom is opening the same intelligence to outside applications through expanded Model Context Protocol servers and Search and Ask application programming interfaces. Supported assistants can retrieve context or perform Zoom actions without opening its interface, while an administration server will support conversational configuration.

Host of AI services

Fifteen new AI services include voice agents, interpretation, transcription, speech summarization and structured decision outputs. Developers can use managed voice pipelines or supply their own language models. Platform Studio brings AI Services, Video software development kit and Co-Browse SDK into one portal.

“In simple terms, it’s your data, your tools, your choice,” Bolton said. “The intelligence moves with the work.”

For customer service, Zoom is introducing profiles that combine CRM records, engagement history and linked cases across Contact Center and Phone. Executives said the goal is to preserve knowledge as customers move between channels, virtual agents and employees.

Zoom Virtual Agent is expanding into physical kiosks for retail, healthcare and other settings. Multimodal capabilities let customers show products to a virtual agents via a camera, with unresolved requests escalated to employees or remote experts. Agent Architect can generate virtual agent flows from call transcripts.

Source Hub will initially connect Salesforce records directly to the agent desktop for viewing and updating. Customer Workflow Orchestrator can automate follow-up processes, pause for external events and resume when conditions are met.

CX Insights adds natural-language analysis of transcripts alongside operational metrics, recommended actions and executive briefs. Quality Management expands into third-party cases and AI role-playing for agent training. A new spending feature pools annual commitments across seats, applications and AI capabilities.

“This is what it looks like when you truly stop treating your customer interactions as disconnected tickets and start treating them as one continuous story,” said Michelle Couture, Zoom’s customer experience product marketing lead.

The Zoom Events virtual conference platform is getting updates including Content Studio, which repurposes recordings into multilingual clips, posts and images, plus AI-assisted event setup and conversational analytics.

Zoom Revenue Accelerator adds prospecting, lead enrichment and outreach that can continue until meetings are booked. Workflow automation detects stalled deals, while Revenue OS connects buying signals, routing, engagement and forecasting.

Broader access to business information raises governance requirements that Zoom said it’s addressing with sensitivity labels that can be synchronized with Microsoft Purview or used with native classifications to enforce handling policies. Centralized AI management will add visibility, audits and administrative controls, while custom guardrails are designed to restrict sensitive information in outputs and require human review where specified.

Planned deepfake detection analyzes video and audio and assigns confidence scores to suspected cases of external manipulation. Compliance Manager support for the My Notes note-taker and Canvas (formerly Zoom Docs) will archive AI-generated content for retention and supervision. Many of the announced features are scheduled for release through early 2027.

Dicker said administrators could inspect agent activity, shut down agents that violate policy, and review the sources behind responses. The company also allows for human review before high-stakes actions and feedback mechanisms to improve accuracy.

“The unified context layer doesn’t just aggregate data,” Dicker said. “It also thinks about things like respecting permissions, compliance policies, and data governance rules that are at every layer.”
