National Kidney Foundation's Innovation Fund Invests in BMI OrganBank to Advance Breakthrough Kidney Transplant Technology
NEW YORK, July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Kidney Foundation's (NKF) Innovation Fund today announced an investment in BMI OrganBank to advance breakthrough kidney transplant technology.
BMI OrganBank is developing novel medical devices with potential to significantly reduce the waitlist for lifesaving organ transplants, beginning with kidneys. The NKF Innovation Fund investment will support BMI OrganBank's mission to expand access to kidney transplantation through improved organ preservation and assessment technologies.
"The National Kidney Foundation is committed to accelerating innovation that improves patient outcomes," said Kevin Longino, CEO of NKF. "BMI OrganBank's technology has the potential to transform kidney transplantation by making more organs available and improving transplant success rates."
BMI OrganBank's room-temperature machine perfusion platform maintains donor kidneys in a physiologically active state, enabling real-time assessment of organ function during preservation. This approach addresses limitations of current cold storage methods and could significantly increase the number of viable organs available for transplant.
