Airloom Energy breaks ground on a 150-kilowatt pilot wind power system northwest of Laramie, Wyoming, to test its shorter, oval-track design. The pilot uses the same components planned for megawatt-scale installations, but its track is about the size of a high school running track. CEO Neal Rickner says Airloom aims to deploy its first commercial-scale system in 2027 or 2028, potentially at a data center or military base.

Bill Gates-backed wind startup AirLoom is raising $12M, filings reveal
AirLoom Energy is raising $12.7 million from 21 investors, according to a regulatory filing that does not identify the backers. The Wyoming startup’s wind system uses vertical blades attached to cables moving along an oval track 25 meters above ground, and aims to generate electricity for $13 per megawatt-hour, more than 50% below traditional onshore wind. The funding is likely to help finance a 1-megawatt pilot targeted for 2026; AirLoom previously raised a $4 million seed round.
