Dry battery electrode manufacturing process that deposits cathode and anode powders onto a substrate without solvents.
AM Batteries' Powder to Electrode is a dry-coating technology for manufacturing lithium-ion battery electrodes. It deposits cathode and anode active powders directly onto a current-collector substrate, removing the drying and solvent recovery steps of conventional solvent-based casting. The process runs through three stages: dry mixing of active powder with a polymer binder and conductive additive, electrostatic spray deposition onto the substrate, and hot calendaring to compress and bind the particles.
Removing solvents collapses a seven-step solvent-based electrode line into four stages. That yields lower energy use, a smaller carbon footprint, and reduced spatial, operational, and capital equipment costs relative to solvent-based manufacturing.
