Ascent Student Loans - Research Notes

  • Ascent Student Loans pairs a longer post-graduation grace period with repayment flexibility, offering up to 40 repayment options and a twelve-month cosigner release. Its college loans carry no application, disbursement, prepayment, or late fees.

Eligibility extends to cosigned and non-cosigned borrowers, including DACA and international students, and borrowers gain access to financial-wellness coaching, career support, and a graduation cash-back reward. Ascent's own published lender comparison presents its automatic-payment discount range, longer grace period, and fee policy as advantages over the industry standard it cites.

  • The Ascent student loan program launched in 2016 under Turnstile Capital Management, and the offering was branded Ascent Student Loans by 2018. A progressive repayment plan was introduced for loans submitted on or after May 17, 2019.

A full principal-and-interest repayment option was added for college loans originated on or after June 3, 2024, and the automatic payment discount has applied to eligible applications received on or after July 1, 2021. Cosigner release requirements were reduced from twenty-four to twelve on-time payments for applications submitted on or after July 1, 2022.

  • Ascent Student Loans offers both fixed and variable rate structures, with the rate determined by credit history, repayment plan, loan term, and whether the application is cosigned. The lowest rates require full principal-and-interest payments, the shortest available term, and a cosigner with strong credit.

Borrowers who enroll in automatic payments receive an interest-rate reduction that is tiered by loan type and application date. College loans carry no application, disbursement, prepayment, late, or NSF fees, while career-training loans carry a one-time origination fee; repayment options include deferred, interest-only, minimum-payment, progressive, and immediate plans.

  • Ascent Student Loans is a private education lending program offered by Ascent Funding, LLC for cosigned and non-cosigned undergraduate students, graduate students, and parents, alongside a separate career-training loan line.

Loans cover up to 100 percent of school-certified costs, with no application, disbursement, prepayment, or late fees on college loans, and up to 40 flexible repayment options. Funding is made available through partner banks, including Bank of Lake Mills and DR Bank, and borrowers can release a cosigner after twelve consecutive on-time payments.
