Memo

eBay Enterprise, Inc. (formerly GSI Commerce, Inc.) was a multinational e-commerce corporation that created, developed and ran online shopping sites for brick-and-mortar brands and retailers. It also provided marketing, consumer engagement, customer care, payment processing, fulfillment, fraud detection, and technology integration services. The company had over 500 clients and operated 26 offices in North America, Europe, and Asia.

History timeline: Founded by Michael Rubin in 1995 as Global Sports Incorporated (sporting goods). In 1999 it branched into clothing and other categories. Changed name to GSI Commerce in 2002. Acquired Accretive Commerce for $97.5M in 2007. On March 28, 2011, eBay Inc. announced it would acquire GSI for $2.4 billion; the deal closed June 20, 2011. On June 20, 2013, GSI Commerce was rebranded as eBay Enterprise. On July 16, 2015, eBay announced the sale of the unit for $925 million to a Permira-led consortium including Sterling Partners. The sale closed November 2, 2015. The unit was split into four parts: enterprise operations/technology (became Radial in April 2016), Magento Commerce Technologies (spun out independently), Marketing Solutions (rebranded as Pepperjam in April 2016), and CRM (acquired by Zeta Interactive).
