Producers, refiners and marketers need their natural gas, crude oil, natural gas liquids and refined products moved reliably from wellhead and plant to end markets. Energy Transfer owns and operates the gathering, compression, treating, transportation, storage, fractionation and terminaling assets that carry those volumes, earning fee-based rates for the midstream service rather than taking commodity price risk.

Where gas-focused peers such as Kinder Morgan or Williams concentrate on a narrower slice of the value chain, Energy Transfer spans natural gas, crude oil, NGLs, refined products and LNG export in one integrated network, with NGL fractionation and LNG export capacity those rivals do not match. That breadth lets a shipper move several products through one counterparty rather than contracting each pipeline separately.
