Amid climate disruption, there is an urgent need to act: due to increasingly frequent droughts, wildfires are set to become an unwelcome norm in many regions around the world. To combat this phenomenon, and in the absence of real measures to lower the Earth's temperature, more and more countries are installing very special cameras that use artificial intelligence.
The start-up FireTracking is testing a new technology for detecting wildfires in New Caledonia and Indre-et-Loire. The system uses several cameras and provides images analyzed and sorted by artificial intelligence. It can reach very remote areas.
“The risk of fire is no longer limited to the south of France,” said Thomas Campeaux, prefect of Indre-et-Loire. This is the message being conveyed at the beginning of July by the Indre-et-Loire prefecture, SDIS37 and the Department, which are presenting the full wildfire prevention system.
French infrastructure operator Axione has secured a new contract in the Indre-et-Loire department, as part of a consortium created in partnership with French start-up FireTracking and Emerton Group subsidiary Emerton Data, which provides software engineering and AI consulting services. The contract covers the deployment of twelve fire detection points to help local firefighters detect and monitor wildfires in forested areas across Indre-et-Loire’s territory. FireTracking features in Adapt Unbound’s ranking of the 12 most promising European startups in the fight against wildfires.
The young company identifies and precisely locates emerging fires to reduce false alarms and make firefighters’ work easier. It has just won its first contract in mainland France, with the Indre-et-Loire Department.
