FundtheFirst is a verified crowdfunding platform launched on July 4, 2020 and operated by FT1, co-founded by retired New York City police detective Robert Garland. Organizers raise money for themselves, another person, a nonprofit charity, or a business venture through the Bootstrap-Me path, and Plaid identity verification must clear before a fundraiser goes live. The platform reports more than $18 million raised across roughly 1,300 fundraisers from over 133,000 donors.
The platform charges no administrative, setup, or payout fees, leaving only Stripe card processing of 2.9 percent plus 30 cents, with payouts to the verified beneficiary on a five-day cycle. Nonprofits are validated against their name and employer identification number, Bootstrap-Me ventures can configure tiered giveback levels, and donor badges run from Bronze at $100 to Diamond at $5,000. FT1 also runs Fallen First Reserve, a nonprofit arm supporting families of fallen first responders.
