Healthchecks.io watches scheduled jobs through periodic pings with missed-check-in alerts.
The service concentrates on one task, alerting when scheduled work does not check in on time, and its operator states that availability has exceeded 99.9% since the public launch in July 2015. The code is released under a BSD licence, so customers who must keep monitoring in house can self-host it.
Pricing is published and self-service, with a free tier covering 20 jobs and paid plans adding SMS, WhatsApp and phone-call credits monthly. The company also publishes comparison pages against Cronitor and Sentry, and gives the Business plan free to open-source projects and non-profits.
The service is operated by a single person, and its documentation says so plainly: it warns that the ops team consists of one person, that database fail-over is performed manually, and that multi-hour or even multi-day outages are possible.
Availability is described as best effort rather than guaranteed, and the free Hobbyist tier is capped at 20 monitored jobs. Payment is by card or PayPal only, and the company does not accept bank transfers or provide custom quotes.
The offering is sold self-service in four monthly tiers: a free Hobbyist plan covering 20 jobs, a 5 US dollars Supporter plan with the same limits, a 20 US dollars Business plan covering 100 jobs with 50 SMS and WhatsApp credits, and an 80 US dollars Business Plus plan covering 1,000 jobs.
Paying annually reduces the two business tiers by 20 per cent, and each monitored job keeps a log of received pings whose length is set by the plan. The Business plan is provided free of charge to open-source projects and non-profits.
Healthchecks.io is a hosted monitoring service for cron jobs, background workers and other scheduled tasks. Each monitored job is expected to send a periodic HTTP or email ping, and the service alerts the operator when a ping does not arrive on time.
The software is open source under a BSD licence and can be self-hosted, so the hosted service is one deployment option rather than the only one. Paid plans add monthly credits for SMS, WhatsApp and phone-call notifications.
