Glīd wins TechCrunch Startup Battlefield at Disrupt 2025, taking home the Startup Battlefield Cup and $100,000. Its first product, GliderM, is a hybrid-electric vehicle with a rear hook that moves 20-foot shipping containers directly to rail without forklifts or hostler trucks, as the company aims to streamline and reduce the cost of moving containers from ships to freight trains.
TechCrunch names Charter Space, Glīd, MacroCycle, Nephrogen, and Unlisted Homes as the five Startup Battlefield finalists at Disrupt 2025. Their products span spacecraft-insurance underwriting, container movement from ships to rail, plastic recycling, kidney-targeted gene-therapy delivery, and profiles for homes not yet listed for sale. Selected from thousands of applicants, they compete for $100,000 in equity-free funding and the Startup Battlefield Cup.
Nephrogen uses AI and advanced screening to develop a kidney-targeted delivery system for gene-editing medicines intended to treat polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Founder Demetri Maxim says the system is 100 times more efficient at delivering medicine to the kidney than currently FDA-approved vehicles. The company plans to advance the delivery system and its drug into clinical studies, which Maxim anticipates will begin in 2027, and is raising a $4 million seed round.
