Rivet's systems are engineered around frontline conditions rather than consumer form factors: hardware is designed against Effective, Compliant, Ergonomic, and Deployable criteria for austere operations, and the company's glasses-like displays run on Android for operator configuration. Analyst coverage identified Lumus geometric waveguides in the company's published device imagery, a display approach that trades on higher optical efficiency and brightness than the diffractive waveguides used in earlier soldier-worn systems.
The company states it designs, selects, and integrates components to meet user and operational performance requirements, and works with soldiers at a high cadence during development. Its prime role in the U.S. Army's Soldier Borne Mission Command program, and partnerships with Palantir and Northrop Grumman, give it direct access to field iteration and integration channels.
Rivet competes for dismounted soldier systems against much larger incumbents: Anduril, which holds the other $159 million Soldier Borne Mission Command prototype award and has built the program's predecessor, and Microsoft, whose earlier IVAS program established the Army's requirements and its known human-factors challenges. The company's display approach depends on external waveguide supply, and its devices remain prototype-stage pending Army fielding decisions.
The company is privately held and small relative to defense primes, and its industrial line enters a market where enterprise mixed-reality vendors previously retreated.
