Sekal is a Norwegian provider of real-time drilling engineering and automation software for oil and gas.
Sekal supplies three interconnected real-time drilling products. DrillExpect runs transient well simulations for planning and live what-if analysis, DrillScene monitors wellbore condition against digital-twin models, and DrillTronics applies optimised drilling actions directly to rig machinery controls.
DrillTronics can be integrated with the rig for full automation or run in an advisory configuration requiring lighter integration, and it operates in parallel with DrillScene. Sekal performs DrillExpect simulations on a pay-as-you-go basis and provides training and round-the-clock support to license holders.
Drilling automation is expanding as operators and drilling contractors pursue lower well-construction costs and more consistent well placement. Sekal positions its real-time modelling and automated drilling control as a response to narrow margins and increasingly complex wells.
The company's acquisition by Halliburton places its automation platform inside a large oilfield services portfolio, where it sits alongside LOGIX automation and geosteering. Adoption of automated drilling control across onshore and offshore operations worldwide remains the main driver of its growth.
Sekal's differentiation rests on tightly coupled hydraulic, mechanical and thermodynamic models that simulate wellbore condition in real time. Those models drive early detection of drilling hazards, dynamic equivalent circulating density simulation, and automated control tuned to live well conditions.
Sekal reports support for more than 1,100 wells across 30-plus countries and cites reductions in technical sidetracks and CO2 emissions on its own site. Its automation technology was integrated with Halliburton's LOGIX platform to deliver an automated on-bottom drilling system for Equinor in the North Sea.
