Bitcoin Staking lets holders lock Bitcoin under their own keys and earn rewards paid in Bitcoin, rather than giving up custody to a third party. The mechanism derives its yield from the network's Proof of Transfer consensus, which has distributed Bitcoin to participants since its introduction. Rewards are paid out on a recurring schedule.
An institutional variant bundles Bitcoin on the base layer with the network's native token and distributes payouts over a fixed term. Custody providers support the institutional flow, allowing funds and other large holders to take part. The product competes with other Bitcoin yield arrangements that typically require transferring Bitcoin to a custodian.
