HelioDrive is Sulas Industries’ passive solar tracker for photovoltaic arrays, driven entirely by solar heat rather than motors, gears, or electronics. A parabolic concentrator focuses sunlight onto a receiver holding a small amount of engineered paraffin wax, whose expansion acts as a hydraulic actuator; a single moving component translates that linear travel into rotation, giving the unit the capacity to lift loads over 3,000 pounds.
The product family spans the HD 8, HD 50, and HD 75 models and installs in top-of-pole, ground-mount cable-drive, and ground-mount direct-drive configurations, with a single unit able to rotate anywhere from one or two panels up to large ground-mount arrays. Sulas Industries, based in Silverthorne, Colorado, demonstrates the technology at its Silverthorne solar garden and positions HelioDrive as a replacement for electronic single-axis tracking systems.
