Germany-based Focused Energy raises an oversubscribed $240 million Series A to develop laser-powered fusion technology. The round brings its private capital raised to $300 million, alongside $200 million in grants, with RWE as the main investor and SPRIND, Prime Movers Lab, and the European Innovation Council Fund also participating. Focused Energy’s inertial-confinement reactor uses direct-drive lasers to compress fuel, and the company hopes to build its Lighthouse demonstration system at a decommissioned nuclear power plant in Germany.
