Using space to benefit citizens and meet future challenges on Earth
Making space accessible and developing the technologies for the future
Satellites support fields including space science, Earth observation, meteorology, climate research, telecommunication, navigation and human space exploration, providing scientific data and essential applications and services.
Asteroids are ancient space rocks left from the Solar System’s formation and may have brought complex molecules, possibly early life, to Earth; the page addresses protection from future impacts.
As part of the global effort to detect potentially hazardous asteroids and comets, ESA is developing a series of automated telescopes, inspired by an insect’s compound eye, to scan the sky every night.
