T Russel Reitz Animal Shelter

Founded in Manhattan, Kansas, the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter serves the city's animal needs. Operated by Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, its core mission is to provide care and shelter for lost and abandoned animals while promoting responsible pet ownership. The shelter offers services such as pet adoption, lost and found pet assistance, and animal control. It primarily focuses on the local community, ensuring that pets find loving homes and receive necessary care.

The shelter has been a vital part of the Manhattan community for many years, evolving from a small dog pound at Sunset Zoo to a comprehensive animal care facility. Notable achievements include successful adoption programs and community outreach initiatives that have significantly reduced the number of stray animals. The shelter's impact is evident in the improved welfare of local pets and increased public awareness about animal care and adoption.
