Groq is reportedly seeking $650 million from existing investors to expand its inference cloud business. The service lets developers and enterprises host inference-heavy applications on Groq’s homegrown AI chips and systems. The fundraising follows a December agreement with Nvidia, reportedly valued at $20 billion, that licensed Groq’s hardware technology and saw some senior employees join Nvidia; Groq investors received cash payouts. The effort is led by interim CEO Adam Winter and CFO Matt Eng.
AI chip startup Groq raises $750 million at a $6.9 billion post-money valuation, more than twice its $2.8 billion valuation in August 2024. Disruptive leads the round, with BlackRock, Neuberger Berman, Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners, and existing investors including Samsung, Cisco, D1, and Altimeter participating. Groq sells cloud and on-premises inference computing powered by its language processing units, and says it now powers apps for more than 2 million developers.
