Social Determinants of Life, Inc. was launched in September 2021 by AmeriHealth Caritas as a wholly owned subsidiary focused on improving life outcomes by addressing social determinants of health. The company was created to invest in, support and deploy solutions that help people in need build resilience, covering areas such as housing, education, job training, transportation and access to healthy food.

Alongside its launch, the subsidiary made a $29 million Series B investment in Wider Circle, a California-based startup that builds tech-enabled, hyper-local health programs and peer-to-peer social networks, making AmeriHealth Caritas the largest shareholder. After this initial investment, the subsidiary maintained no standalone public website or social media presence and announced no further deals, and its activity became dormant.
