Efficient Computer closes a $97 million funding round led by TQ Ventures, bringing its total funding to $650 million. The startup is developing data-flow chips that it says can use up to 100 times less energy than x86 chips while retaining programmability. Its first product, the Electron E1, targets battery-powered robots and autonomous drones, and the new funding will support production scale-up and increased customer shipments.
Toyota Ventures partner Lisa Coca discusses climate-tech investing, including declining investor interest in hydrogen and the role of Inflation Reduction Act incentives. The firm manages more than $800 million across six funds, with $300 million dedicated to its Climate Fund. Coca says hydrogen needs stronger demand signals and climate-tech startups must find a path to profitability without relying on IRA funding.
