Alibaba Unveils Qwen3 Foundation Models With 235B Parameters

Alibaba Cloud has officially launched Qwen3, the third generation of its open-weight large language model family. The release includes a flagship 235-billion-parameter dense model and a mixture-of-experts variant with 30 billion activated parameters across 128 total experts.

The Qwen3 series supports both thinking and non-thinking modes, allowing developers to toggle between deep reasoning for complex tasks and fast generation for conversational use cases. Benchmarks show the top-tier Qwen3-235B-A22B outperforming leading open models on math, code generation, and multilingual evaluation suites.

Alibaba is releasing the models under an Apache 2.0 license, continuing its strategy of open-weight distribution that has produced more than 200,000 derivative models on Hugging Face. The Qwen ecosystem now spans text, vision, audio, and code modalities.
