Spotlight PA is an independent, nonpartisan 501(c)(3) newsroom founded in 2019 by The Lenfest Institute for Journalism and a coalition of Pennsylvania newsrooms to counter the decline of corporate-owned local media. It produces investigative and public-service journalism focused on the Pennsylvania state government and urgent statewide issues, and distributes its reporting at no cost to readers and to more than 100 partner newsrooms for republication.
The organization measures its work by policy and community impact, citing investigations that prompted program and agency changes in the state capital. It is supported by foundations and individual members, operates as an independent nonprofit, and serves Pennsylvania residents rather than a paying subscriber base.
Pennsylvania Investigative Journalism is Spotlight PA's nonpartisan investigative and public-service reporting on Pennsylvania state government and statewide issues.
