Claude Models API Products, Competitors and Risks - aVenture Research
Research Notes
Anthropic launched the Claude Models API to give developers programmatic access to its family of frontier large language models. The API has evolved through multiple generations, from early Claude models to the current Claude 4 family including Opus 4.1, Sonnet 4, and Haiku 3.5.
Over time, Anthropic added capabilities such as tool use, vision inputs, extended thinking, and up to 1M-token context windows, as well as managed deployments through cloud partners including AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry.
The Claude Models API is a RESTful Messages API that enables developers to integrate Anthropic's Claude family of large language models into applications and workflows. It supports conversational interactions, advanced tool use, vision inputs, extended thinking modes, and context windows of up to 1M tokens.
The platform includes cost-optimization features such as prompt caching and batch processing, as well as advanced capabilities like Claude Managed Agents, MCP connector integration, code execution, and structured JSON outputs. Models are available through direct API access and managed deployments on AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry.
