Athion grew out of PlantWise Industrial Consulting, an automation consulting practice that transitioned to focus solely on the platform. It supplies an engineering system of record for process manufacturing, serving owner-operators and engineering teams in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, oil and gas, pulp and paper, food and beverage, and metals and mining.

The platform ingests piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment lists, and specifications into one living, queryable design, runs design acceptance testing before freeze, and propagates versioned changes to downstream systems such as DCS, PLC, and simulation tools. Its vendor-agnostic, operational-technology-first approach works with the existing plant stack rather than replacing it, addressing the rework that follows when design data lives in drawings, spreadsheets, and documents that connect only through people.
