Product Overview

BlueWallet App is a free, open-source mobile bitcoin wallet for iOS and Android, with APK and macOS builds also available for download. It covers on-chain transactions, Lightning payments, multisig vaults, and watch-only wallets in a single application.

The wallet connects to hardware signing devices such as Coldcard, Passport, Jade, and Keystone over PSBT, and includes coin control, fee management with RBF and CPFP, transaction batching, and import and recovery tooling. Users can also connect the wallet to their own node.

Market Outlook

BlueWallet operates in a competitive field of mobile self-custody bitcoin wallets that includes Phoenix, Muun, Breez, and Bitcoin.com Wallet, each differing in Lightning implementation, multisig support, and chain coverage. Its community-built, donation-supported model contrasts with venture-funded providers.

The 2023 wind-down of its custodial Lightning service aligned the product with the broader market shift toward fully self-custodial designs. Continued release activity across mobile and browser surfaces indicates ongoing maintenance of the project.

Competitive Advantages

BlueWallet's open-source, bitcoin-only focus distinguishes it from multichain wallets, and its self-custody design keeps keys on the user's device. Multisig vaults, watch-only wallets, and broad hardware-wallet support let it serve users across cold-storage and everyday spending setups.

The project publishes its code under an MIT license, supports privacy features such as Tor connectivity, Payjoin, and plausible-deniability storages, and benefits from a contributor community that builds and reviews the codebase in public.
