Capital Bancorp owns Capital Bank, providing commercial banking, home loans, and credit cards.
Capital Bancorp and Peoples Bancorp announced a merger agreement on September 30, 2026. The all-stock transaction was valued at approximately $728.1 million using the stated Peoples share-price reference, and Capital shareholders would receive 1.11 Peoples shares for each Capital share.
Capital would merge into Peoples, followed by Capital Bank merging into Peoples Bank. The companies expected completion in the first half of 2027, subject to customary conditions, regulatory approvals, and approval from both shareholder groups. Those conditions make the announcement a proposed combination rather than a completed change of ownership.
Capital Bancorp delivers banking services through Capital Bank, its federally chartered subsidiary. Commercial and consumer customers in the Washington metropolitan area can access lending, deposits, treasury services, and digital banking with support tailored to their financial requirements.
The group also operates Capital Bank Home Loans and OpenSky as national lending businesses. The mortgage division lends in all 50 states, while OpenSky offers and services credit cards across the country. These businesses serve different borrower groups within the same bank holding company.
Capital Bancorp's structure combines relationship-based commercial banking in the Washington metropolitan area with mortgage and credit-card businesses serving customers nationwide. Capital Bank Home Loans lends in all 50 states, and OpenSky services credit cards across the country, extending the group's reach beyond its branch markets.
Capital Bank describes its operating model as combining digitally delivered products with service tailored to each customer relationship. Its corporate profile states that expansion has deliberately traded physical-branch expenses for investment in digital technology, supporting commercial, mortgage, and credit-card customers through different channels.
