Course Hero cuts 42 employees, or 15% of its workforce, in its first layoff of this size in the company’s 17-year history. CEO John Peacock tells staff the reduction is intended to position the business for future growth as the sector evolves; affected employees receive severance, health benefits through June, and transition support. Course Hero and parent Learneo say they are cash-flow positive and profitable on an adjusted EBITDA basis.
Course Hero acquires Netherlands-based academic proofreading service Scribbr for an undisclosed price. The deal adds a network of 700 editors and expands Course Hero’s European footprint, following earlier acquisitions including LitCharts and QuillBot.
