Bitopertin by Disc Medicine — Product Research | aVenture Research
Bitopertin is an investigational oral small molecule that selectively inhibits the glycine transporter 1 (GlyT1), reducing glycine uptake into erythroid cells and thereby lowering the synthesis of protoporphyrin IX, the phototoxic compound that accumulates in erythropoietic and X-linked protoporphyria. The candidate was in-licensed from Roche and is developed by Disc Medicine.
The program has completed the Phase 2 AURORA and BEACON studies, is supported by the ongoing confirmatory Phase 3 APOLLO trial and the Phase 2 HELIOS long-term extension, and a new drug application is under U.S. FDA review for EPP.
SCENESSE (afamelanotide) is CLINUVEL's approved subcutaneous melanocortin-1 receptor agonist implant that increases pain-free light exposure in adults with erythropoietic protoporphyria.
