Pi is a minimal terminal-based coding agent harness created by Mario Zechner and maintained by Earendil Inc. It is designed to be aggressively extensible, letting developers adapt the tool to their workflows rather than dictating how they should work.
Pi supports 15+ LLM providers including Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Azure, Bedrock, Mistral, Groq, Cerebras, xAI, Hugging Face, Kimi, MiniMax, OpenRouter, and Ollama. It offers four modes: interactive TUI, print/JSON output, RPC protocol, and SDK embedding. Key features include tree-structured session history, context engineering via AGENTS.md and SYSTEM.md, skills and prompt templates, custom extensions in TypeScript, and the ability to switch models mid-session. The project is open source under the MIT license and has gained over 50,000 GitHub stars.
