EmergentDB develops an open-source vector database that automatically discovers search configurations for developers building semantic-search applications.
EmergentDB builds a self-optimizing vector database for developers whose semantic-search and retrieval-augmented workloads outgrow hand-tuned indexes. Its engine treats index selection as a search problem, evolving configuration candidates against the user's own vectors until the fastest setup for that workload emerges. Teams can run the AGPL-licensed core themselves or use the companion managed cloud.
Unlike ChromaDB, LanceDB, and FAISS, which expect developers to choose and tune index parameters themselves, EmergentDB automates that step while holding results to a recall floor. The project sits in the open-source, self-hosting tier of the vector-database market, with paid managed plans as the commercial complement. A companion metadata cache, QDKV, extends the same account to caching workloads.
