FutureSports was founded on the premise that live, play-by-play statistics from professional and collegiate games can be converted into continuous, rules-based benchmark values rather than static statistics. It administers the FutureSports Performance Indexes, which start from a standardized base value before each season and move as officially reported game statistics accrue, and it holds league data agreements that let the indexes reference official statistics. The indexes serve as the underlying benchmarks for exchange-listed futures and options.

Its differentiation sits in the mechanism: index values derive from official league play-by-play data under transparent, rules-based methodologies, and the company administers the indexes independently with formal governance aligned to the IOSCO Principles for Financial Benchmarks. That sets the indexes against the equity, commodity and fixed-income benchmarks exchanges use to track performance and hedge risk. The contracts target hedgers of sports-related exposure: third-party vendors, sponsors and endorsers, insurers, and apparel manufacturers, along with asset managers and pension funds.
