GlitchTip

GlitchTip is open source error tracking that teams self-host or buy as a hosted subscription.

Competitive Advantages

GlitchTip reads Sentry's open source client SDKs, so teams can move existing instrumentation onto it or run both systems side by side. The whole platform is published under an open source license, letting customers inspect, modify, and self-host it, and the self-hosted edition carries no license fee.

Its hosted pricing undercuts comparable commercial error monitoring at every tier while covering error tracking, performance, uptime, and logs in one product. It also keeps event data in the region the customer picks, with a fully separate EU instance, and purges stored event data after 90 days.

Competitive Disadvantages

GlitchTip carries less functionality than the commercial platforms it is measured against, concentrating on error tracking, performance monitoring, uptime checks, and logs rather than the full breadth of a large observability suite. Teams that need deep distributed tracing or bundled security products have to look elsewhere.

The vendor is a small, all-remote team, and its published support window runs on US Eastern business hours. Self-hosted operators need a paid support plan before they can open a support request.

Pricing Strategy

GlitchTip sells hosted subscriptions priced by monthly event volume: free for personal projects up to 1,000 events, then $15 for 100,000, $50 for 500,000, and $250 for three million, with annual billing at a discount and non-profit and open source plans from $5 a month. The self-hosted edition carries no license fee, and support plans are sold separately for self-hosted operators.

Organizations that exceed their quota are throttled by 10% and then blocked at twice their limit, and HIPAA-compliant hosting is an add-on to the largest plan. Stripe processes payments, and the hosted service runs on separate US and EU instances with identical plans.
