K2 Space sells high-power satellite platforms, led by the Mega Class bus that targets multi-kilowatt power and multi-ton payload capacity for commercial and defense customers. The company builds most of the platform in-house at its Torrance factory and multi-manifests satellites per launch to raise power delivered to orbit.
Mega Class is engineered for LEO, MEO, GEO, and cislunar missions with radiation-tolerant avionics and high-delta-v electric propulsion. A planned Giga-class platform is intended to push power toward 100 kilowatts for space-based compute and larger payloads later this decade.
K2 Space designs for mass and power abundance rather than miniaturization, pairing high payload mass with tens of kilowatts so customers can fly heavier sensors, comms, and compute without traditional bus constraints. Vertical integration of more than 85 percent of the platform supports cost control and higher production rates from a single Torrance factory.
Flight heritage includes subsystem demos and the Gravitas Mega-class satellite, while signed commercial and government programs such as SES meoSphere, Golden Dome partner roles, and Protected Tactical Satcom-Global provide demand that smaller bus vendors cannot match at this power class.
Large-bus production is capital intensive and must prove repeatable manufacturing yield, schedule reliability, and cost control as orders scale toward dozens of satellites per year. Established aerospace primes and productized bus specialists already supply government and commercial programs with deeper flight heritage across many orbits.
K2 also faces program concentration risk while large constellation and defense awards convert from signed contracts into delivered spacecraft. Competing smaller buses can win proliferated LEO missions where extreme power and mass are not required.
