OceanWell, Flocean, and Waterise are developing deep-sea reverse osmosis systems that use ocean pressure to desalinate water with smaller pumps. The companies project their systems will use 30% to 50% less energy than onshore reverse osmosis, while producing more dilute brine. OceanWell announced an $11 million Series A, and Flocean announced a $9 million Series A. Flocean has agreements to deploy demonstration systems in the Maldives and Jordan.
