Mendaera closed $73M in Series B financing in September 2024, led by Threshold Ventures with participation from Lux Capital, PFM Health Sciences, and Fred Moll, to scale handheld robotics and AI across mainstream medical procedures. An earlier $24M Series A led by Lux Capital closed in August 2023, and a December 2023 commercial agreement brought Butterfly Network Ultrasound-on-Chip technology into the robotic system.
In September 2025 Mendaera announced the world first procedures with the Focalist handheld robotic system, with a urologist achieving precise kidney access during percutaneous nephrolithotomy. The milestone opened a limited US launch in urology, and a collaboration with Cook Medical extends the handheld robotics platform toward needle-based interventions.
The Focalist System is Mendaera handheld robotic platform combining robotics, real-time ultrasound imaging, and guidance software for precise needle and instrument placement. In March 2024 Mendaera acquired the telepresence technology of Avail Medsystems to add virtual connectivity to the portfolio, alongside the December 2023 Butterfly Network commercial agreement for Ultrasound-on-Chip integration.
The platform supports touchscreen targeting, robotic alignment, and depth tracking with linear and phased-array probes for pediatric and adult patients. FDA-cleared with a limited US launch in urology, the system recorded its first procedures in September 2025 and plans broader specialty expansion.
