Formed in 2000 as a holding company for Penson Financial Services, which began clearing operations in Dallas in 1995. The company went public on NASDAQ as PNSN in May 2006.

It provided correspondent clearing, custody, settlement, and trading technology to broker-dealers globally. After transferring its U.S. clearing business to PEAK6/Apex Clearing in 2012, the parent filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in January 2013.
