Planet A Foods announces $15.4 million in Series A funding to scale its cocoa-free chocolate business. The Munich-based company uses fermentation to turn locally sourced ingredients such as oats and sunflower seeds into ChoViva, which it supplies to food manufacturers and retailers. It plans to expand internationally, hire scientists, and scale production of cocoa butter and palm oil alternatives; its facility already produces 750 kilograms of ChoViva per hour.
