Rolls-Royce SMR is a technology vendor that designs, manufactures, supplies, assembles and commissions a complete small modular reactor power plant, about 90% of which is factory fabricated and delivered to site as modules for assembly and commissioning under an EMA contract. Offering a complete nuclear power station as a manufactured product brings the cost and risk reductions and quality improvements of factory fabrication.
The Rolls-Royce SMR uses a symmetrically arranged, three-loop, close coupled reactor producing 1358MWt of heat, and the approach removes the expense, lead-time and risk of developing a new supply chain and EPC contractor team for each plant constructed. Its reactor is designed to avoid the difficulties that have impacted other large-scale nuclear projects in recent years. Rolls-Royce SMR and Great British Energy – Nuclear are advancing plans to deliver the UK's first small modular reactors at Gwyndod.
