Rustic Bakery began with a single idea: a sourdough flatbread cracker made to pair with artisan cheese. A sample shared with a local artisan cheesemaker drew an early order, and the first crackers were baked behind a wine bar that the founders turned into a café serving coffee, baked goods, quiche and salads. The company now bakes flatbreads, crisps, cookies and biscuits by hand and runs cafés in Marin County, with its bakery in a larger Sonoma County facility.
Rustic Bakery competes on handmade production and ingredient sourcing, making organic, non-GMO crackers and cookies with locally sourced ingredients at its own production facility. Its products reach customers through grocery, club, e-commerce, specialty and foodservice channels, while its wholesale business serves retailers through direct accounts, custom orders and the Faire marketplace. Its cafés serve locals baked goods, salads and sandwiches.
