Sandoz pioneered biosimilars with the world's first biosimilar program in 1996 and first approval in 2006.
Biosimilars are versions of biologic medicines made from living cells, treating cancer, diabetes, arthritis and autoimmune conditions. Sandoz achieved first biosimilar approvals in Europe in 2006, Japan and Canada in 2009, and the US in 2015.
The company has 13 marketed biosimilar medicines and a pipeline of around 39 candidates across immunology, oncology, endocrinology and ophthalmology. In 2026 Sandoz unveiled its Bio100 ambition at Capital Markets Day and announced a strategic collaboration with Henlius on up to 10 biosimilars.
