As an instrument of the Spanish state, SEPI combines patient long-term capital with an explicit public-interest mandate under Law 5/1996, allowing it to hold strategic industrial assets through cycles that private owners might exit. Its diversified group spreads exposure across regulated and industrial sectors while generating steady operating revenue at national scale.
SEPI also holds a distinctive crisis-management capability, demonstrated by its administration of the FASE solvency fund with a reported recovery rate near two thirds of deployed financing. Its sustained innovation spending, around one hundred eighty eight million euros in 2024, further supports the competitiveness of its industrial holdings.
SEPI faces a period shaped by European industrial policy, energy transition and defence spending, all of which touch its core holdings in shipbuilding, aerospace, energy and defence. Continued state interest in strategic autonomy should keep its portfolio central to Spanish industrial planning.
At the same time the group must complete the orderly wind-down and recovery of pandemic-era FASE support while sustaining profitability and investment across its companies. Its outlook therefore rests on balancing the stewardship of permanent strategic stakes with disciplined exit from temporary interventions.
