Spiro is Africa's largest electric-mobility and clean-energy infrastructure platform, founded in 2022 and chaired by Gagan Gupta through the Equitane group. It designs and deploys electric motorcycles such as the EKON 450 and Commando alongside a network of more than 2,500 automated battery-swapping stations, having surpassed 100,000 vehicles and 30 million swaps across Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Togo, Benin, Nigeria, and Cameroon.

The Nairobi-based company pairs its swap network with proprietary maps, IoT, and a ride-hailing app, manufacturing and assembling vehicles in Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda. In June 2026 Spiro closed a $270 million funding round led in its final tranche by NewTrails Capital, with backing from Impact Fund Denmark, Equitane, FEDA, Nithio, and the Africa Go Green Fund, bringing the company near unicorn status.
