Leading research in High Energy Density Physics, creating extreme states of matter, and addressing interdisciplinary scientific concerns.
The Center for Matter under Extreme Conditions (CMEC) is a research organization dedicated to advancing High Energy Density Physics (HEDP). It focuses on creating and diagnosing extreme states of matter, both magnetized and un-magnetized, through innovative combinations of HED drivers. CMEC aims to train future scientists and develop a comprehensive understanding of HED systems using both modeling and experimental approaches. The center also contributes to the Stockpile Stewardship Program (SSP), addressing complex interdisciplinary scientific challenges.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration's Stewardship Science Academic Alliances (SSAA) Program, CMEC collaborates with national laboratories and trains graduate students in stockpile stewardship. Notable achievements include significant technological breakthroughs in HEDP and a robust publication record. The center's work has a substantial impact on both scientific understanding and practical applications in national security and advanced material science.
