UNCLE Credit Union was founded in 1957 by four employees of the University of California Radiation Laboratory at Livermore (now Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory) to serve the lab community.

In 1957, four physicists at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory formed Radiation Laboratory Livermore Credit Union to serve the lab community. The cooperative later expanded its services beyond the lab.
