UroMems built its business on applying micro-electromechanical systems to an active implantable sphincter. UroMems develops smart active implants for the treatment of stress urinary incontinence. Its UroActive device is a smart active implant placed around the urethral duct.

UroActive measures patient activity in real time through micro-sensors inside the implant, and embedded algorithms set the appropriate urethral pressure, with remote control and no manual adjustment. It raises pressure during daily activity and releases compression on the urethral tissue when no increase is needed, which UroMems expects to reduce urinary leaks and re-interventions caused by tissue atrophy or damage seen with other devices. It is designed for a quick, minimally invasive procedure and for patients with stress urinary incontinence and their healthcare professionals.
