VAST combines storage, database, and compute in an AI Operating System for agentic computing and data-intensive workloads.
Vast Data argues that stitched-together AI pipelines can expose sensitive data when embeddings, source data and access controls fall out of sync. Vice President of Systems Engineering Vaughn Stewart says the company’s integrated architecture is designed to combine storage and data processing. Its DataEnclave confidential AI runtime uses secured virtual machines, remote cryptographic attestation and tamper-proof access logs to support AI workloads on regulated data.

Vast uses a tiered storage system to extend AI agents’ working memory beyond GPU capacity, according to co-founder and CTO Alon Horev. The system moves KV cache from GPU memory to CPU memory and then persistent storage, with Nvidia Dynamo orchestrating the tiers; sessions can shift between GPUs or be retrieved from Vast to reduce recalculation and improve scheduling. Horev says retained agent conversations also support governance and can provide data for fine-tuning or purpose-built models.

Vast Data launches DataEnclave, a confidential computing environment for running AI models on sensitive data without exposing the data or model intellectual property. Integrated into Vast DataEngine and the Vast AI Operating System, it uses Nvidia confidential computing, hardware-isolated CPU and GPU environments, cryptographic attestation, and customer-controlled encryption keys. DataEnclave supports customer data centers, AI clouds, and air-gapped deployments, and is in preview ahead of a planned first-quarter 2027 release.

Solidigm, Supermicro and Vast Data outline a tiered storage architecture for agentic AI inference as context windows and KV caches expand. Solidigm supplies SSDs, Supermicro integrates them into rack-scale systems, and Vast Data provides network storage and data services; Supermicro’s Context Memory eXtension targets the gap between system memory and local or network storage. Vast Data reports tests with Nvidia Dynamo showing 20 times faster time-to-first-token and 90% savings in GPU time.
