Band of Angels

Band of Angels is the oldest organized angel investment group in the United States, formed in Silicon Valley in 1994 to bring veteran high-tech executives together as seed-stage backers of technology and life-science startups. Membership is drawn from former and current operators — engineering leaders, founders, scientists, and chief executives — who write personal checks into the companies they admit, mentor, and frequently join as board members or formal advisors.

The group operates through monthly pitch dinners at which pre-screened US-registered startups present to the assembled membership, with industry-aligned Special Interest Groups handling deeper due diligence and ongoing post-investment support. Investments are syndicated from individual member checks rather than a pooled fund, span pre-seed through Series A across technology and life sciences, and are positioned alongside the network itself — operating relationships, customer introductions, and board placement — as the core value the group offers founders.
