The MIT Sandbox Innovation Fund Program is an Institute-wide source of non-dilutive capital and mentoring for MIT undergraduate and graduate students starting companies. Teams begin with awards of $500 to $5,000 and can pitch the program's funding board for cumulative support of up to $25,000, while each cohort pairs teams with mentors and tailored entrepreneurship education.
Run from the MIT School of Engineering in partnership with the MIT Innovation Initiative, the program has funded more than 4,000 student teams and disbursed over $11 million across its first decade. It takes no equity in the ventures it backs, and alumni companies founded by participants have gone on to raise billions in outside venture funding.
